The goal of the Mathematics Program at C.C.B. School is for all of our students to understand and appreciate the mathematics they are studying.
They will come to read, write, explore and communicate in the language of mathematics with confidence.
They will be taught to used appreciate and use mathematics in everyday life.
It is our belief that problem-solving (investigating, conjecturing, predicting, analyzing and verifying), followed by a well-reasoned presentation of results is central to the process of learning mathematics, and that this learning happens most effectively in a cooperative, student-centered classroom.
Our program is problem-focused rather than topic-focused.
The purpose of this format is to have students continually encounter mathematics in meaningful contexts, enabling them to draw and then verify their own conclusions. |
