Everybody, from infants to grandparents, enjoys toys. However, not all toys are proper for very young babies. Infants find everything new and fascinating. These less than a year old children will smile if they see colorful and shiny mobiles, or if they can chew on soft, washable, rubber, or nonbreakable objects. It is not a good idea to let an infant play with toys that can break or toys that are so small that the infant can put the toy in his or her mouth, eyes, ears, or nose.
When children are between one and two years old they search to find out what different toys can do. They like to learn that some toys squeak, some toys can be squeezed, or some toys light up. Children that are around one and two years old can spend hours pulling or pushing certain toys around. They also enjoy seeing what different structures they can build out of blocks. Although these children are maturing, people still have to be careful with giving them very small toys or toys with sharp edges.
