Today my older sister was on the phone, when I made a
comment about her conversation. Immediately, she told me
to “mind my beeswax”. I found this to be a very
interesting comment, since I am not a worker bee of any
sort, nor do we have honeycombs in our house. These are
the only conditions under which her comment would have
made any sense. Beeswax is a dark yellow substance that
can only be obtained from the honeycomb that worker bees
produce. After consuming large quantities of honey, bees
form a waxy substance on their bodies. With this wax,
bees make a honeycomb that has many cells for storing
either bee eggs or honey. It is necessary for the worker
bees to mind the beeswax to protect either eggs or
honey. Sometimes, people obtain beeswax and use it for
such products as adhesives, candles, chewing gum, beauty
supplies, lubricants, and polishes. Once people obtain
beeswax, it has to be melted in boiling water. People
must mind the beeswax while it is boiling because they
must watch for when the wax rises to the surface so that
they can dip it off.

Today was the most important interscholastic track meet of the year. There were not only a lot of parents and spectators, but also college track coaches. The bleachers were full and the enthusiasm was running high. I was amongst the two runners representing our school, and although my teammate, Sue, had a better record, she had fell ill over the weekend. I knew that under such circumstances it was possible that my run might be faster than Sue's, but it was not my goal to compete with Sue.
We stood on our marks and the gun sounded. Sue and I both started slowly and the other runners were in front of us. Soon, Sue accelerated and was quicker than I. As we passed the midpoint, it seemed that Sue was outrunning everyone on the track, except for the one runner who was ahead of her. From a few meters behind Sue, I was so sure that she would rapidly gain ground. Sure enough, Sue broke the tape and I came in one person behind her. Sue was able to overcome her sickness and enable us to add two new medals to our high school's showcase.
